- : Such is life. And I for myself don't see a HD drive as such a
- : necessity... Yes, we have more and more Amigas coming with harddisks
- : from start (the Escom shops in Germany seem to sell only the harddisk
- : model), so floppies in general decrease in importance.

-
- Unfortunately, Escom UK shops are the complete reverse. They only ever bought the non-HD
- A1200s which is rather damaging in my opinion (ie. developers are less likely to be convinced
- that HD-installable software is viable). Add to that the ignorance, and antagonism of the
- Escom UK (former Rumbelows) staff, and we have a recipe for failure. I hate to say it, but
- all the hard work that Escom AG, and AT are putting into the Amigas is being completely
- destroyed by the incompetence of Escom UK. Perhaps you could have a word to Mr. Schmitt and
- get him to pay our UK stores a visit. Really, the situation can only be improved by
- marketing, training, and support (ie. software, hardware, and technical knowledge from
- staff). In fact, I was told that at one of the Escom training sessions (the ones that Escom
- said they couldn't afford when the Amiga community asked for trained staff), the session with
- all the technical managers resulted in an uproar when they were told that they HAD to support
- people with Amigas (this was some time in June '95). To date, I don't think that any
- Amiga-related customer has even been slightly more than horribly disappointed at the complete
- snubbing of the Amiga by Escom UK.
-
- I just hope that some people at the top can see what is going on and actually DISPLAY their
- Amigas (with software, not just a Kickstart screen), and give the machine a fighting chance
- rather than stick a couple of boxes in a corner, get the sales staff to slag it off and then
- expect customers to buy it.
